We have to thank Peter & Jenny Cowley for their encouragement, technical advice and contribution to the research; Peter’s site at www.cowleyfamily.org.uk offered much inspiration. We are also grateful for access to the research of Anthony Frost who’s family and ours has a common ancestor three generations ago: Anthony’s work has been useful in both adding to and confirming our own research whilst he has contributed photographs as credited. Anthony’s family web site is at http://www.familyhistory.org.uk.

We also thank the Senior Archivist of  the Cheshire and Chester Archives and Local Studies for his permission to use copies of the tithe maps of Bowdon and Altrincham. Have a look at their excellent e-mapping of  Victorian Cheshire at http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/TwinMaps.aspx

The Altrincham tithe map is at: http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/TwinMaps.aspx?township=EDT_13-2

The Bowdon tithe map is at: http://maps.cheshire.gov.uk/tithemaps/TwinMaps.aspx?township=EDT_59-2

The book ‘Bygone Altrincham’ by Charles Nickson, published in 1935 is an informative and entertaining background to the town.

There are many photographs of Altrincham and Bowdon, including the churches, on the excellent  ‘Trafford Lifetimes’ web site at www.trafford.gov.uk/content/tca/ and on the Francis Frith web site at http://www.francisfrith.com/search/england/cheshire/bowdon
